THE JOINT HEALTH FORMULA

Our highly experienced clinical research team have recommended 12 key ingredients for the newest JOINT HEALTH Formula.  CM (Cetyl Myristoleate) is the least known and probably the most important nutrient in the formula.  It has been called "WD-40 for joints" because it has super-lubricating effects.

  1. Glucosamine is the most common nutrient used today to repair damaged tissues within and around the joint. It is a small molecule and is easily absorbed. Glucosamine is used by the body to create larger molecules known as glycosaminoglycans which in turn are used to synthesize the body's tendons, ligaments, cartilage, synovial tissues, and synovial fluid.

  2. Cetyl Myristoleate is a naturally occurring fatty acid ester derived from both vegetable and animal sources. It’s a combination of a fatty acid, myristoleaic acid, and cetyl alcohol. This combination produces an especially slippery substance (CM), which assists glycosaminoglycans, such as chondroitin, in the lubrication of articular cartilage. Slippery articular cartilage allows bones and muscles to slide smoothly over cartilage, reducing wear-and-tear and supporting healthy joint function.

  3. Type II Collagen is the most abundant collagen found in joint cartilage. Collagen is the most abundant protein in the human body making up 70% to 90% of the total weight of all connective tissues. By itself, supplementation with type II collagen has proved to be extremely helpful in reducing inflammation related to both rheumatoid and osteoarthritis.

  4. Methyl Sulfonylmethane (MSM) is a highly bioavailable source of sulfur. It is found naturally occurring in our bodies and also found in many food sources, including green vegetables, fresh fruit, cow's milk, and fish. It is found in extremely high levels in the joint connective tissue. MSM donates its sulfur to help collagen reconstruction. Collagen makes up 50% of joint cartilage.

  5. Zinc is important for the synthesis and repair of all joint tissues. In one double-blind, placebo-controlled study the zinc-treated patients experienced reduced joint swelling and morning stiffness while improving walking times. Zinc is one of the most frequently found mineral deficiencies. Zinc is required by the body to create superoxide dismutase (SOD) which helps to reduce free radical damage to our joints.

  6. Manganese is drastically needed during times of tissue repair and is usually found lacking in the standard American diet (SAD). Manganese is required to manufacture glycosaminoglycins from Glucosamine and collagen. Manganese is also a component of MnSOD, an important antioxidant necessary to reduce free radical damage which is drastically needed during times of tissue repair and is usually found lacking in the standard American diet (SAD). Manganese is required to manufacture glycosaminoglycins from Glucosamine and collagen. Manganese is also a component of MNSOD, an antioxidant necessary to reduce free radical damage, which is a major component of degenerative joint disease..

  7. Copper is another mineral necessary for the healing of damaged tissues and must be perfectly balanced with zinc. Copper combines with zinc to form an antioxidant that protects our joints, ligaments, tendons, and muscles from free radical damage known as copper-zinc superoxide dismutase (CuZnSOD). Copper is also used to synthesize the body's fuel required for cellular energy known as ATP.

  8. Turmeric has been used for hundreds of years in Ayurvedic medicine to treat many different inflammatory conditions. Curcumin, the active compound in turmeric, is one of my favorite natural herbal anti-inflammatories and antioxidants. It is known as a natural COX-2 (cyclo-oxygenase) inhibitor, but without the potentially dangerous side effects of similar pharmaceutical medications.

  9. Boswellia Serrata is another aruvedic herb that has shown itself to be a powerful anti-inflammatory. It also helps to reduce the swelling related to many joint problems. The anti-inflammatory properties of this gum resin are due to the inhibition of two pro-inflammatory enzymes, 5-lipooxygenase (5-LO) which generates inflammatory leukotrienes and Human Leukocyte Elastase (HLE). HLE initiates injury to the tissues, which in turn triggers the inflammatory response.

  10. Rosemary has been used by traditional herbalists to relieve muscle spasm. Joint pain, while supporting circulation and nerve supply to involved tissues. It also has powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects.

  11. Hyaluronic Acid is a glycosaminoglycan that is a major component of synovial fluid and joint cartilage. As such it helps in rebuilding damaged tissues and joint surfaces to improve joint movement.

  12. Boron is another trace mineral required daily in the human diet. Low dietary intake of Boron has been found to relate to an increased incidence of osteoarthritis and osteoporosis. In Israel, where dietary intake of Boron is 8-10 mg/day, the incidence of osteoarthritis is less than 1%. Dietary intake of Boron in the U.S. is only 1-2 mg/day.
